Kristin Danelson: Surgical Technology, ‘24

ӰԺ has prepared Kristin with the foundation for a successful Surgical Technology Career (ST) career.

“This program has given me profound knowledge that would only be gained through the experience of working in the field. This has made me a better healthcare provider for my patients.”

Service as an Army Combat Medic gave Kristin perspective as a Student Veteran at ӰԺ

Kristin served as an Army combat medic and was medically discharged due to an injury. “Being a veteran is being part of a community. We all have different stories, but we can relate to each other. Joining the military was a turning point in my life. I learned many valuable skills, met some amazing people, and experienced a different kind of life. It gave me a unique perspective. I would not be where I am today without the experiences I gained from my time in the service.”

Kristin believes it’s important we celebrate veterans. “Being a mother, I am even more proud to say I have served and contributed to keeping our country safe.” It was nostalgic to have that comradery with her classmates that she used to have in the military. “Everyone at ӰԺ is very accepting and eager to help.”

A goal to provide excellence to patients – and her community

Her goal is to work on the labor and delivery floor at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, CT., and earn her Certified Lactation Consultant certification (CLC) to help new moms. “I want to build a presence within my local community along with my spouse, who works for the fire department.”

As a parent and veteran, ӰԺ helped Kristin every step of the way

As an Army Veteran, Kristin says the process of enrolling at ӰԺ was exceptionally smooth. “Christina Morey, the VA Coordinator, is extremely helpful. I have been to her office so many times, and she is always willing to talk to veterans.”

For Kristin, balancing a family and education is hard but rewarding. “Being a parent changes you — every day you try to be better than you were the day before.”

Thank you for your service, Kristin. We know your future is bright!
